Why use our services?
We offer a service directly provided by a completely independent practicing Solicitor completely fluent in both the English and French languages and with considerable knowledge pertaining to the legal systems of both countries.
Regardless of whether people are buying in France for investment, holiday, lifestyle change or retirement, most people are searching for a property and quality of life which they do not feel they would be able to obtain in England. As the saying goes, the French arrive to work in England, whilst the English go to live in France.
In common with most countries on the continent, property prices in France are generally cheaper than England, but the disadvantage is that, in common with most countries on the continent, the costs of acquisition are usually higher. It is usual to budget about 7 % for legal fees and duties, and approximately an additional 5 % for an estate agent.
Our fees only amount to a fraction of the overall cost of buying a French Property. Our service exists to facilitate the process for people who are not totally familiar with French law, culture and language, to ensure that they understand exactly what they are doing and avoid making mistakes which are far more likely to occur in an unfamiliar environment.
No matter why one decides to buy or undertake other business dealings in France, and there are still many good reasons to do so, it is prudent to remember that one will not usually be familiar with the legal, cultural, nor linguistic framework.
We are often consulted after the event regarding situations which we like to think would not have arisen had had we been instructed at the outset.
We can assist you from England or France at the outset of a transaction or other matter and are able to provide ongoing assistance thereafter in England or France, including for example, dealing with your annual tax returns, or any other matters which may arise.
We are also there to assist in the event that you have been trying to resolve a tricky situation regarding French property yourself but now need the matter sorted out.
We can also help on English Civil law issues, with an emphasis on contentious matters.
